Helping Your Child Believe in Themselves Again
Many of the young people who join Discovery have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.
They may have struggled with large classrooms, academic pressure, social situations, attendance, anxiety, behaviour, communication or simply feeling that they were not being understood.
Over time, repeated experiences of difficulty can have a significant impact on a young person's confidence.
That's why our first priority isn't simply asking:
"What can your child achieve?"
We also ask:
"What does your child need in order to believe they can achieve?"
At Discovery, relationships come first. We take time to understand each young person, build trust and create an environment where they feel safe, valued and listened to.
Once that foundation is established, learning can begin to feel possible again.
Our transition process is deliberately supportive, with opportunities to meet staff and visit the centre so that students can become comfortable with their new environment.

Learning That Feels Meaningful
Project-Based Learning
For some young people, sitting at a desk completing worksheet after worksheet simply isn't the most effective way to learn.
That's why our pre-16 curriculum uses project-based learning.
Instead of separating learning into disconnected subjects, students can learn through practical projects that have a clear purpose and outcome.
A project might involve construction, gardening, cooking, sport, outdoor education, enterprise, environmental work or another area that captures a student's interest.
Along the way, students can develop their English, mathematics, science, communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
But importantly, they can see why they are learning.
They can make something.
They can solve something.
They can achieve something.
And they can look back and say:
"I did that."
Project-based learning can provide students with meaningful reasons to engage, while developing academic knowledge alongside independence, persistence, problem-solving and teamwork.
